Am I being Petty or What?

I'm not kidding when I say I've spent the entire week cleaning my house in preparation for the company that's visiting this weekend.  I have tackled each of the kids' room in turn organizing their toys, moving their furniture around and even to go so far as to use a crevice tool in all the corners.

I've de-cluttered my counters, kitchen windowsill and even ventured into the gray zone on top of the refrigerator.  I've moved furniture, moped my floors and cleared off the dumping ground on top of my dryer.  I even contemplated whether I had time to recover the plastic on my kitchen chairs.  I don't.  I've swept the patio, rearranged the plant pots, set out cushions and made the kids wash, with soap, all the outdoor toys.

Why am I doing all this for a simple visit from my husband's brother's family?  It couldn't possibly because I'm still pissed at them and figure well he may think I'm a bad parent but I'm gonna show him. (Yeah, I'm that mature)

You see their house looks like they are only two steps away from a hoarders episode. From people who are complete germaphobes, I've never been in such a disastrous house. Maybe they figure if it's their dirt, it's okay.  My BIL won't even let his wife wash dishes directly in their stainless steel sink because who knows whether it's really sanitized or not.  So she washes dishes in a bowl in the sink.  The sorta thing you do when you're say... camping.

He didn't grow up this way and has more or less descended into this lifestyle since having kids.  So I'm little enough to want to rub his nose a little in how clean and organized our house is.

Of course, I'm just making a whole lot of work for myself but in the end we have reaped the benefit of a tidy house and it's sure nice to walk into the laundry room and not see the dryer piled up with a mish mash of laundry stuff.  AND since BIL goes and hangs out at the store with hubs while his wife and two kids comes here, the house probably won't be in any great shape after 5 kids are done running through it by the time the "men" get home.  .

So am I being petty or what?

  1. Nope... I do the same thing every time my inlaws come over because I know they talk about me behind my back and gosh darn it if they do, it won't be about my house. It's be how I'm " so mean" to them. ;P

  2. I always do mopping, however, not for getting rid of stress but for necessary. haha...
